I don’t like historical analogies because they’re usually misleading but Trump and Vance’s treatment of Zelensky is ominously reminiscent of the way Hitler bullied President Hacha of Czechoslovakia in March 1939. Hacha actually fainted and had to be revived before signing away his country. But Zelensky is made of sterner stuff. What did people see on TV? Two big guys bullying a small guy. This is never a good look. And who will be the real loser? Not Zelensky. Trump’s desire to establish peace and bring Russia in from the cold is laudable but he’s going about it in disastrously the wrong way. Ukraine may have no cards but neither has America. Trump has just thrown them away.
