Do you want to study the past, the present or the future? Well you can’t study the future because it is fundamentally unknowable and can never arrive because when it does it’s the present. But you can’t study the present because by the time you’ve studied it it’s already the past. All you can do is study the past which tells you something about the present but nothing about the future.
