If you are going to try to end a war, you have to do it the right way. What are you trying to do, just stop the killing? Or establish genuine peace? A ceasefire isn’t peace. All it does is stop the killing in the short term. It doesn’t establish genuine peace, as a quick look at the history of Israel/Palestine shows. If the parties are far apart and don’t trust each other – Russia and Ukraine for instance-then peace will take years to establish and then only if both sides want it. In talking about ‘peace’ this early, Donald Trump is probably ensuring he won’t even get a ceasefire.
